Description
Few men accomplished more than Emile Berliner (1851-1929) in the field of recorded sound. Berliner invented the phonograph, the microphone and the flat disc and founded no less than three major record companies: EMI, Deutsche Grammophon, and Victor. The Berliner Gramophone Co. was Canadas first record company. Emile Berliner started making records in Montreal in 1900. The recording business which at first sold a few thousands discs went on in a short time to sell millions. This disc features major recordings of the Canadian Berliner and RCA Victor and the booklet includes the history of the company, the evolution of sound technologies and a social history of the milieu in which the company operated.
